Terms & Conditions

These terms apply to driving lessons provided by Leadway Limited ("Leadway Driving School", "we", "us") and to your use of this website. By booking or attending a lesson, you agree to these terms.

Enquiries and bookings

Submitting an enquiry through our website, or contacting us by telephone, WhatsApp, email or any other method, is a request for information and does not by itself create a confirmed lesson booking. A lesson or course is only confirmed once we have accepted the booking and any required payment or deposit conditions have been satisfied. Until a booking is confirmed, you are under no obligation.

Lessons and pricing

  • Lessons are provided by a DVSA Approved Driving Instructor.
  • Lessons are automatic only.
  • The minimum lesson length is two hours.
  • Pay As You Go is £45 per hour. A standard two-hour session is £90.
  • A new pupil's first two-hour introductory lesson is £75.
  • 10-hour and 20-hour block bookings are paid in full in advance at the rates shown on the pricing section.
  • Refresher lessons, motorway lessons, intensive driving lessons, Pass Plus and test-day packages each have their own price as shown on the pricing section.
  • Lessons are adapted to the individual pupil and their pace of learning.

Intensive driving lessons

Intensive driving lessons offer a more concentrated approach, with lessons arranged closer together where availability allows. An intensive course begins with a paid two-hour driving assessment so that a lesson plan can be based on your current experience, confidence and individual needs.

The appropriate amount of training depends on your experience, ability, progress and circumstances. We do not guarantee that you will reach test standard within a specific number of hours. Any practical driving test remains subject to DVSA availability and you reaching an appropriate test standard. Purchasing an intensive course does not guarantee a driving test pass or a particular test date.

Pass Plus

Pass Plus is a nationally recognised DVSA post-test course of six hours, normally arranged as two three-hour sessions, covering town, all-weather, rural, night, dual carriageway and motorway driving. You are assessed throughout the course.

When you reach the required standard in every module, the instructor and pupil complete and sign the relevant training report as required. You then apply and send the required information to DVSA, and DVSA issues the Pass Plus certificate. Leadway Driving School does not itself issue the official Pass Plus certificate. An insurance discount is not guaranteed and depends on your insurer.

Provisional licence

You must hold a valid UK provisional (or full) driving licence and bring it to every lesson. We may refuse to conduct a lesson if your licence is not valid or not brought.

Health and eyesight

You must be fit to drive and meet the legal eyesight standard (reading a number plate at the prescribed distance). Please tell us before a lesson about anything that may affect your ability to drive safely, including any medication, fatigue or health condition. You must not attend a lesson under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If in the instructor's reasonable judgement you are not fit to drive, the lesson may be refused or terminated and no refund will be given.

Payment

  • Pay As You Go lessons paid by bank transfer must be paid at least 48 hours before the scheduled lesson.
  • If you pay for lessons by cash, you pay for your current lesson separately. In addition, a £90 deposit, equivalent to one standard two-hour Pay As You Go lesson at the current £45-per-hour rate, is held as credit towards your final lesson. This arrangement helps maintain payment security for cash bookings. The £90 remains your lesson credit and is normally applied towards your final lesson. If an amount becomes properly due under the cancellation provisions and the deposit is used towards that amount, you may be required to restore or top up the deposit before further cash lessons are reserved. The deposit is not automatically non-refundable, and Leadway does not automatically keep or forfeit the £90 when lessons end. Any application of the deposit is consistent with the cancellation and refund provisions in these Terms & Conditions.
  • Block bookings are paid in full in advance. Agreed lesson dates and times can then be reserved in advance, subject to availability.

Block bookings: unused credit and refunds

Block bookings are offered at a discounted rate compared with the standard Pay As You Go lesson price. If you choose to end a block booking before all prepaid lesson hours have been used, you may request a refund of any remaining eligible balance.

Where a block booking is ended early, lessons already taken will be recalculated at the standard Pay As You Go rate that applied when the block was purchased. The amount payable for lessons already taken, together with any other properly due charges under these Terms & Conditions, will be deducted from the amount originally paid. Any remaining eligible balance will then be refunded to you.

For example, if you have used part of a discounted block before ending it, the lessons already taken will be recalculated using the standard Pay As You Go rate that applied when you purchased the block. The resulting amount will be deducted from the sum originally paid, and any eligible remaining balance will be refunded. This recalculation reflects the loss of the block-booking discount when the block is ended early; it is not an additional cancellation penalty or administration fee. No separate cancellation or administration fee is charged for ending a block booking early.

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions affects your statutory consumer rights.

Cancellations

  • Please give at least 48 hours' notice to cancel or rearrange a lesson. If you give less notice and we cannot fill your reserved time, a reasonable cancellation charge may apply, up to the price of the booked lesson. This is not an automatic full fee regardless of circumstances.
  • If Leadway Driving School needs to cancel or rearrange a lesson, you will not be charged for a lesson that is not provided. Any payment already made for that lesson will normally be transferred to the rearranged lesson or refunded where appropriate.
  • Leadway's 48-hour notice request is separate from DVSA's own deadline for changing or cancelling a practical test. Please check your DVSA test confirmation for the exact DVSA deadline that applies to your booking.

Test-day car hire

The Practical Test Day Package is a three-hour car-hire booking at Hendon or Mill Hill, including pickup, a pre-test warm-up drive, use of the instructor's car for the practical test, and drop-off. Other test centres are priced individually and quoted before booking. The DVSA practical test booking fee is separate and paid by you.

If your test is moved or cancelled, please tell us as soon as possible, preferably at least 48 hours before the reserved session, so we can review your reserved car-hire session. Any charge for time or services already provided will be discussed with you. Leadway's car-hire arrangement and DVSA's separate test booking rules are distinct; please check your DVSA test confirmation for the DVSA deadline that applies to your test.

Conduct and punctuality

You agree to behave respectfully and follow the instructor's guidance during lessons. Please arrive on time; lessons cannot always be extended to make up for late arrival. We may terminate a lesson if your conduct is unsafe or inappropriate, and no refund will be given in such circumstances.

Instructor discretion and safety

The instructor may take appropriate safety interventions, including using the dual controls, during a lesson. The instructor will use their professional judgement in deciding whether a pupil is ready for a particular activity, including motorway driving or a practical test. Motorway lessons for learners are only conducted when accompanied by a DVSA Approved Driving Instructor in a dual-control car displaying L plates, where the instructor judges the learner ready.

Dash cameras in the tuition vehicle

The tuition vehicle may be fitted with front and rear dash cameras. These cameras face outward towards the road and surrounding traffic. They are not intended to record the interior of the vehicle.

Dash-camera footage may be used where appropriate for legitimate purposes including:

  • Road and pupil safety.
  • Reviewing driving incidents.
  • Insurance or accident evidence.
  • Protecting the pupil and instructor.
  • Investigating complaints or disputes.
  • Driver training and educational review.

Footage may be overwritten, unavailable, corrupted or otherwise not retained, so we do not imply that footage will always be available.

Using road footage during tuition

Relevant road footage may be used during tuition where appropriate to help you analyse and improve your driving. This can include reviewing planning and anticipation, observations, hazard awareness, junction approaches, meeting traffic, lane discipline, positioning, decision-making, responses to developing situations, and examples of driving situations involving other road users. The purpose is educational. We do not promise that every lesson will be recorded or reviewed. Footage involving other road users is only used where appropriate and consistent with applicable privacy and data-protection requirements. Dash-camera footage is not automatically treated as material that Leadway can publish on social media or use for general marketing.

Audio recording

Audio recording is not routinely enabled. If audio recording is used, it will only be where there is an appropriate and justifiable reason, and pupils will be informed accordingly.

Promotional photographs and videos

Following a successful driving test or other achievement, we may invite you to have photographs or videos taken. We may ask for your permission to use this content for promotional purposes, including our website, social media, digital marketing and other Leadway promotional materials.

Participation is optional. We will obtain your consent before using identifiable photographs or videos of you for promotional purposes. Choosing not to consent will not affect your lessons, bookings, prices or service in any way.

Where promotional use is based on your consent, you can withdraw that consent for future use by contacting us at info@leadwaydrivingschool.co.uk. We will take reasonable steps to stop further use and, where appropriate and reasonably possible, remove content from channels under our control. Withdrawing consent does not retrospectively make earlier lawful use invalid.

Promotional media consent is separate from acceptance of these Terms & Conditions. Accepting these terms does not automatically constitute consent to the promotional use of your photographs or videos.

Your statutory rights

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions affects your statutory consumer rights. The application of statutory cancellation rights can depend on how and when a service was booked, whether performance has begun and other circumstances.
